Cornish Rex or Cornish Royal Cat is officially named in 1967. The first kitten with wavy coat was born in 1950 by ordinary cat. The kitten name was Kallibunker. This extraordinary event happened in England, in Cornwall county.

Cornish Rexes have a recessive gene of wavy. The kitten will have wavy coat in case if the both parents have a recessive gene of wavy coat. Some kittens with wavy coat were born as a result of cross breeding.

One of the enigmatical breed of cats was a result of persistent work of felinologs for 17 years. Today Cornish Rex becomes more and more popular because of a lot of sweet temper of the breed.

Cornish Rex was named after the place of original (Cornish country) and also after similarity mutation with Rex rabbit.

Wonderful, silk and wavy coat is one of the incontestable merits of Cornish Rex. That is why Cornish Rexes are called astrakhan cats sometimes.

Though short coat Cornish Rexes are never cold as the coat of the cats is very thick and warm. Moulting is not visible, you will never able to find the lost cat's coat on your cloth or furniture.
